Selling coins in Canton, Georgia
Cherokee County, Georgia
Sending photos doesn't commit you to sell
Who buys coins in Canton, Georgia?
We do.
We're a coin dealer and coin buyer based in Rockmart, and we buy coins and old paper money from sellers in Canton and across Cherokee County. Send photos and we'll talk it over.
1. Selling coins from Canton
Canton is about 45 miles from us in Rockmart. Send photos here on our website or on Facebook. Your town is enough to start.
Sending photos doesn't commit you to sell, and you can turn down any offer. If it makes sense to go further, we'll arrange a time and place to see the items in person. Offers are made after inspection.
- We never ask you to ship items or pay anything up front.
- For estates and large collections, we can come to you.
We also work with sellers in nearby Woodstock, Cartersville and Acworth.
We pay cash.
2. What we buy, and what to send
Coins, silver, gold and old paper money, from a single piece to a whole collection, including Morgan and Peace dollars, proof and mint sets, graded coins, silver certificates and National Bank Notes.
Send a clear photo of both sides of each coin or note, the label of anything in a grading holder, your town and a few words about what you have. Don't clean anything. Cleaning can't be undone.
3. Handling an estate in Cherokee County
Wills and estates in Cherokee County go through the Cherokee County Probate Court in Canton. The estate's attorney or the court can tell you whether anything is needed before you sell.
For an estate, we'll drive up to two hours from Rockmart. Send photos and we'll talk it over.
4. Gold country, and the Dahlonega Mint
Gold was found in this part of Georgia in 1828. The original Cherokee County, created in December 1831, was split a year later into ten counties, Lumpkin among them, and its land was given out by lottery, the gold districts in lots of 40 acres.
In Lumpkin County the branch mint at Dahlonega struck gold coins every year from 1838 through 1861: gold dollars, quarter eagles and half eagles, and three-dollar pieces in 1854. Each carries a small D for Dahlonega.
Gold coins handed down in a Cherokee County family can include pieces from that mint. Look for the small D, and keep the coins just as they are.
5. Canton's mills and its bank
The county seat was renamed Canton in 1834, when residents hoped to make it a center of silk production. The Marietta and North Georgia Railroad came through downtown in 1879.
R. T. Jones founded the Canton Cotton Mills in 1899, and they were the county's main industry until they closed in 1981. Canton Denim was known for its quality, and the mills were among the largest in the South.
The Bank of Canton, a state bank, was open by 1892 and merged into Wachovia in 2000. Canton had no national bank in the note-issuing years, 1863 to 1935, so no national bank note carries its name. We buy National Bank Notes from any town, along with silver certificates, red seal notes and other older U.S. currency.
